Helene Rosenhouse-Romeo

Helene's interest in nutrition started as a teen and developed into a passion following a year long journey throughout Israel, the Mediterranean, and Europe experiencing different foods and learning about the cultural aspects of eating.

Upon graduating Summa Cum Laude from Brooklyn College with a BA in English, Helene worked as a professional journalist writing about nutrition and health for various consumer publications.  Furthering her commitment to wellness and nutrition, after completing the American Dietetic Association’s academic requirements, a competitive dietetic internship at Westchester Medical Center, and passing the RD exam, Helene went on to become a registered dietitian and certified dietitian nutritionist.

As a registered dietitian with more than 12 years experience, Helene has worked with some of the top researchers in the field of obesity and for five years held the position of Managing Editor for Obesity Research, a peer-reviewed scientific journal.  During her employment at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt hospital Helene has worked as the nutritionist in a number of national and international clinical trials on diabetes and weight management.

Helene chaired the School Lunch Committee for the Bedford Central School district’s Wellness Initiative and was instrumental in formulating the nutritional aspects of Wellness Policy that the District follows today.   

To bring the message of good nutrition back into the consumer arena one year ago Helene, along with her business partner, founded and established Near & Natural, a natural market and café, with the goal of offering customers a taste of local and regional products that are delicious and nutritious and support sustainability.

Living in Mount Kisco, with her husband and three children, ages 11, 8 and 4 Helene counsels both adults and children in both clinical and private settings, and has experience working with adults with developmental disabilities as well.
